Rust Removal

Sometimes people get rid of tools, knives, or other manual objects because they are rusted and damaged. Rust removal and restoration can give them a new look.

The more iron a metal contains, the more susceptible it is to oxidation in the form of rust. Rust removal involves eliminating corrosion on ferrous metals. We have various methods to do this, including electrolysis, chemical processes using baths, or sanding with mechanical means.

Rust removal stops the spread of corrosion on metals.

It is possible that if too much oxidation is already present and the integrity of the blade, part, or tool has been significantly degraded, we may not be able to remove the rust. In some cases, we may be able to custom-design replacement parts.

If you are unsure whether we can remove rust from an object you own or want to know if the metal’s integrity has already been compromised, feel free to contact us with your questions.

Examples of Rust Removal

Rust removal from hedge shears:

The rust on the hedge shears was significant but not enough to affect the integrity of the parts to the point of being unusable. Our rust removal gave them a second life. The rust removal was followed by precision sharpening, just like all the sharpening services offered by Le Spécialiste de l’Aiguisage.

Rust removal and restoration of a survival knife, also known as a Swiss Army knife or camping knife

Rust removal from sewing scissors

The rust removal and sharpening of old sewing scissors that were, in some cases, seized by rust. Once our rust removal was completed, followed by sharpening and polishing, the scissors are ready to serve again.

Rust removal from a bolt cutter that was seized in rust

An example of rust removal from a bolt cutter that was unusable due to being seized in rust. This rust removal required the use of electrolysis in a bath before being disassembled for a thorough cleaning, repainting, and reassembling. Another example that demonstrates the worthiness of checking if rust removal or restoration is possible.
